Hi we are Tirsa, Anouk, Ida, Diba, Clara and Emma we are from Sweden and the Netherlands. We’re doing a project about global climate change and how we can solve the problem. We think it is really interesting because it is our future and the future of our children. If we don’t do anything now they’ll have problems those are even worse. Then they won’t have the beautiful nature that we have because we are destroying it. There are a lot of things how we can destroy the world. For example through CO2 emissions, and that’s caused by the burning of fuels because we fly with the airplanes and ride the cars much more then 150 years ago and we need to make the fuels again and to make those fuels extremely much CO2 is released.

What is climate change?

The climate is actually the weather over a longer period. Climate change means changing the weather over a longer period. Now we are talking about warming up the climate, so it is getting warmer on earth.

How did it begin?

The industrial revolution started 150 years ago, it all started here. The industrial revolution, there were more factories, and we started emitting CO2 much more because we did not yet know that this would be a problem later on, because I think that work would be done differently. Of course, we did not emit as much as now, but it started there, because then we started making as many factories as possible to make as many products as possible and sell as much as possible.

Cause of climate change.

The biggest responsibility for climate change lies with humans. This is because people increasingly use technology such as cars and planes, which cost a lot of fuel. Only making the fuels is enormously bad for the earth. Making fossil fuels emits a lot of CO2 and this heats the earth.

Impact of climate change.

The effects of climate change are very bad. The summers and winters become more extreme, with the result that the icebergs on the north and south pole are melting. But this is not the only thing, because global warming is making temperatures higher and drier. This results in much faster forest fires such as those in Australia.

Types of natural disasters.

The higher temperatures have a lot of influence on the many natural disasters that now occur.

These are the three most common natural disasters:

  1. Floods ~ extreme rainfall makes the rivers overcrowded and the sea level rise, but there are a large number of cities that lie below sea level and are therefore in danger of being flooded.
  2. Forest fires ~ due to the drought and the high temperatures the chance of a forest fire is very high, this is not only a danger for the people in that environment but also for the animals.
  3. Earthquakes ~ those fossil fuels must of course come from somewhere, they extract those fuels from the ground with a huge drill. But this drilling causes many earthquakes worldwide, causing many people to lose their homes.

These natural disasters cause major problems.

Sea level.

The sea level is rising, this has many consequences, but why is it that sea level is rising so much? Because the earth is warming up so much and the temperatures are also rising, the polar caps are melting. Because the North Pole is actually a large ice block and it is already floating in the water, it does not matter whether it melts or not because it is actually inside, this is different in Antarctica because Antarctica is a large piece of land with a lot of ice and is therefore not yet in the water, so as this melts more water is added and the sea level rises. If the sea level rises, this also has consequences for the surrounding countries, because a large number of countries are below sea level, which would mean that everything floods with water.

People / animals

Climate change not only affects nature itself, but also the people and animals that live on earth. As the climate changes, natural disasters such as forest fires are becoming increasingly common. Not only whole pieces of forest are destroyed, but also the animals that live there die. A lot of koalas were killed in the fires in Australia. So climate change does have an effect on the animals, but also on the people.

Quite simply, climate change all started when people started the industry, so it’s the fault of man. But that does not mean that it has no consequences for humanity. Many people depend on drinking water from the poles, when these ice caps have melted, we can no longer get drinking water from it and then the problems really begin.

Transport

Another cause is transport, we transport a lot via land by trucks and trains, on water via large ships and in the air via aircraft. This is because we transport and export a lot even though it is not essential because we can actually be a shame if we all become a supply ourselves, we no longer have to transport and export that much and you also have less trouble CO2 from the earth therefore heats up less quickly.

Electric cars are one of the best-known solutions to the C02 problem, so it fits perfectly into this list. Because of the power that it stores in a large battery at the bottom of the car, the car no longer needs diesel or gas to get ahead, the only thing is that the batteries that the factories make for the cars do emit a lot of C02.

These fans filter the air they collect and extract the CO2 from the filtered air, so these fans ensure that there is little or even no CO2 in the areas around this great wall of fans. This invention was invented by Bill Gates because it want clean air to come and that’s what he made it up for,
the air is sucked in at the back, the air passes through the filter at a speed of 75 km / h. in that filter there is a lot of current, so that the air is positively charged, so the CO2 cells separate from the rest and that is thus collected in the CO2 filter.

This smog free tower provides a good way to remove CO2 from the environment. This works the same as the large CO2 filter that is in Amirika, but these towers are located in the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands, which causes the extinction of cargo ships, cars and factories is being reduced, these towers are part of the roosegaarde project who want the c02 to diminish bit by bit in dutch.

If you want to know more about this tower you can go to this link and there you will find everything you need to know about the smog free towers that are everywhere in rotterdam and later in the whole of the netherlands;

Conclusion.

It was a very fun and aducational project to do. We had much fun with the Swedish students. We learned a lot about climate change an what to do about it. We made good friends and hope we can eventually see them.
